Seasons in Maine are intensely beautiful but short. The sweetness of the magnolia flower is a thing of the springtime, a fleeting herald of flower splendors yet to bloom. Beyond the summer season of gardens comes early autumn and with it, the phenomena of the seed pod. The Magnolia seed pod is beyond compare. It begins pink and hanging like a slipper, only to turn itself inside out and reveal the most spectacular red gems within - the seed.
To love the seasonal changes is to discover with joy the mature plant. It never disappoints and I am always able to find selections still blooming for the Thanksgiving centerpiece.
